The European Beaver in a new millennium.
Proceedings of 2nd European Beaver Symposium,
27-30 Sept. 2000, Białowieża, Poland

Edited by Andrzej Czech and Gerhard Schwab

Carpathian Heritage Society, Kraków, 2001

From cover:

Beavers are magnificent and admired landscape architects, and their activities re-recreate lost wetlands and habitat for many other species of plants and animals. How-ever, these activities can also cause conflicts with landowners; conflicts which have to be solved in order to successfully conserve the beaver in areas close to human settlements and activities. An important way to find solutions is to encourage international cooperation between all interested people and bodies.

The 2nd European Beaver Symposium brought together 60 beaver people from 17 countries; researchers, managers and academics working on beavers, as well as technicians, students and non-professionals interested in beavers. With more than 40 papers and posters presented the participants shared their knowledge; many discussions revealed a common goal - to maintain and further establish the beaver as keystone species in the dynamics of the ecosystems within which he is living, thus benefiting many other species including humans.
