Carpathian Educational Eco-Center
"The Carpathian Mountains Institute"

In July this year the Carpathian Heritage Society in cooperation with NEPCon and Natural Systems, with scientific support from lecturers and students of the Institute of the Environmental Sciences of the Jagiellonian University (PL), the Student Society of Environmental Sciences (PL), the Institute of Ecotechnics (UK), Planetary Coral Reef Foundation (USA), The Foundation for Support of Ecological Initiatives (PL), and Lisle Environmental (USA) has started to built the Carpathian Educational Eco-Center "The Carpathian Mountains Institute" in the Bieszczady Mts., Poland located within the area of the International Biosphere Reserve "Eastern Carpathians", at the Ukrainian and Slovakian border.

The project is supported from different sources, for example, the Sendzimir Foundation, the Carpathian Heritage Society, Natural Systems Co., and EU funding.
In the framework of the project, in cooperation with the "Heritage" (Spadszczyna) from Ukraine the workshop "Traditional building and handicraft in the Carpathian Mts." is planned. The workshop will be run by Hutsul craftsmen, members of "Heritage" Society.

The main assumption of the Center is its independence from energy grid supply. The Center will serve as a demonstration tourism facility, where following activities will take place:
  • presentation of renewable energy sources and other environmentally friendly solutions (such as Wastewater Gardens for wastewater treatment (www.carpathians.pl/gardens/index.html),
  • promotion of environmentally friendly tourism (ecotourism, cross country skiing, horse riding)
  • nature and culture based education (traditional handicrafts workshops, etc.),
  • promotion of local products, organic food, breed of rare and native species (such as hutsul horses).

As it has already been mentioned, the main assumption of the Ecovillage is its off-grid energy supply. The localization, total land area (120 acres) and landscape features allow us to use different renewable energy sources, such as: solar, wind and water energy, organic matter (wood, straw).

Regarding the above-mentioned, we invite companies and institutions, that may contribute directly through their products or financially to our Ecovillage.

In return we offer promotion and advertisement of your company and your products among visitors, local inhabitants, in all publications concerning the Center, website, local decision makers, as well as cooperation at creating your publications and promotional materials, thus helping you to enter and/or expand in the Polish as well as Eastern European market.

The scientific support of our Center will be a good opportunity for gathering performance data and making research in case you will decide to use your equipment and/or devices for the purpose of our Ecovillage.
